UPDATE ON IMPACT OF WAR RUSSIA - UKRAINE

March 3, 2022

Dear customer,
Both ports Antwerp and Rotterdam are struggling with the impact of the crisis in Ukraine and the backlog due to stormy weather a few weeks ago.
Due to the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, a lot of cargo is blocked upon request of the authorities. A lot of cargo from all over the world, destined for Russia, is transshipped in Antwerp or Rotterdam.

MPET IN ANTWERP
As informed earlier, the MPET terminal in Antwerp (quay 1742-1718) on Tuesday communicated that they would suspend all deliveries of full reefers to the quay. “To minimize the impact on the yard, no more operational reefers will be handled as of Wednesday March 2 at 5 am. We therefore organize a temporary delivery stop”.
Yesterday we were informed that :
• the MPET terminal will remain closed till the end of this week. It’s not clear yet when the terminal will open again next week …
• this is applicable for both dry and reefer containers

There’s a substantial impact on sailings from Antwerp, as the so called “MSC PSA European Terminal” (MPET) is the biggest container terminal of Europe, handling more than 50% of the total container volume in the Port of Antwerp.

IMPACT

A lot of sailings are impacted, as for example the container vessels of the 2M Alliance (MSC & Maersk) are calling the terminal, as well as services to Brazil (slot carriers Hamburg Sud/Hapag Lloyd/MSC).
