A strike at the port of Montreal is having serious impact on shipments to the region.

During the last days several unions have given notice of strike actions, which has extended actions ongoing already for a few weeks, in the context of negotiations of a new collective labour agreement.

Initially the strikes were limited in time and not all terminals (and thus services) were affected.
Last week the dockers have announced “an unlimited general strike beginning Monday 10th of August” as they fail to find an agreement with the Maritime Employers Association (MEA). At this moment it is not clear what the exact impact will be for all terminals.

Shipping line Hapag-Lloyd decided to divert her vessels to the port of Halifax (Nova Scotia),
Same with a vessel of OOCL sailing from Europe, initially scheduled to arrive end of this week in Montreal, a service with shipments of several carriers (MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, Cosco), which will now proceed to the port of Halifax. Some services also could be diverted to St. John (New Brunswick).
Please note that carriers can decide to adjust their schedules and also will charge the shippers or consignees with the extra costs (diversion fee and admin cost).
