\n\t\tORIGINAL BILL OF LADING AND ALTERNATIVES\n\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\tHOME ORIGINAL BILL OF LADING AND ALTERNATIVES<\/strong>\n\t

Due to the corona crisis, collecting the original set of the Bill of Lading or BL (*) has become much more difficult than before, this for various reasons.<\/strong><\/p>\nFirst, shipping lines have limited the opening hours of their agencies, but also \u2013 as a lot of people are teleworking \u2013 there\u2019s limited access to original BL paper for printing BL\u2019s. Moreover, there\u2019s a high probability that in some countries courier services don\u2019t operate or are not reliable anymore, and thus these original shipping documents cannot be delivered (on time) to the importer.
\nThis could cause a delay with regard to receipt of a container by the consignee, resulting in extra costs and\/or serious problems at destination.\nGiven the current market situation, shipping lines will refer to \u2018force majeure\u2019 and refuse to bear any extra costs due to problems with delivery of BL\u2019s.
\nTherefore we would like to seek you cooperation to shift, as much as possible, to \u2018alternatives\u2019 for an original BL.
\nThere are 3 options:\n

    \n
  1. Seaway bill or express BL<\/strong>
    \no as a shipment will be released \u2018automatically\u2019 to the consignee, the shipper cannot \u2018block\u2019 the release anymore once cargo is shipped : thus the shipper will have to consider if he\u2019s willing to take that risk;
    \no not \u2018negotiable\u2019, thus cannot be consigned \u2018to order\u2019;
    \no electronic document<\/li>\n
  2. Print (original set of BL) at destination<\/strong>
    \no the consignee is able to collect the original set BL at the local shipping agency
    \no not applicable for all destinations and\/or shipping lines, to be considered case by case;
    \no some shipping lines request a Letter of Indemnity (LOI) for this format;
    \no in most cases shipping lines charge an extra cost<\/li>\n
  3. Telex release<\/strong>

    \n\u2022 some countries do not accept any other \u2018format\u2019 than an original Bill of Lading for importation
    \n\u2022 also in case of documentary credits (e.g. Letter of Credit or Cash against Documents), an original BL will be requested by the bank\nPlease discuss this more in depth with your account manager at Shipex in order to make a deliberate choice per destination and\/or consignee.
    \nWe would like to underline that it\u2019s a necessary to consider this in advance, in order to avoid any disruption of your shipments.\n
