As already mentioned in all media, energy prices are soaring due to the war in Ukraine. Oil prices have climbed to new records and will have a serious impact on price setting and performance in the transport sector.
The world road transport organization IRU calls for “urgent government action on rising fuel prices, including capping fuel prices and cutting fuel taxation” as transport operators struggle with these escalating prices. They indicate that some are already on the verge of bankruptcy.

In the last days, Shipex received announcements of several trucking companies to inform about the revised fuel surcharges. Some transport operators implement an increase with immediate effect, and a few even limit the price validity to maximum one week given the lack of visibility on long term fuel prices.
With the information we have on hand today, we see an increase of minimum 10 % on most haulage rates in Northern Europe. Please note this is indicative, as the diesel prices keep on increasing, but we will revert later with more detailed information on the trucking costs.
